In simple terms – “fitness” is the ability to produce offspring that will survive to reproduction age – thereby increasing [...] As you may have read – we had a bit of a tragedy here at Chicken Thistle Farm when we lost an entire brood of babies.We have watched a large harrier hawk patrolling the field along the nest boxes – it’s highly likely that the female was lost to predation and that’s why the nest failed. [...] In memory of a little 5… After watching the circle of life last night in the field while a doe spent nearly an hour licking and nudging her new born fawn towards it’s new life… this morning we encountered the other side of natures harshness – our nest of 5 baby Eastern Bluebirds was suddenly silent [...] While it’s really nice to enjoy the weather… it’s extra nice when the name sake or our “farm” shows up in full force.
