Fall Harvest

Fall's BountyThe weather this "summer" that caused 70 day corn to take 90 days to harvest also had an impact on the fall harvest as well.  The original plan was to offer a bunch of these bright orange and very unique Cinderella pumpkins to customers with some unique decorative Indian corn, cornstalks and a bale f hay for their front porch...

Well - just like the plan to have our extra garden items at market or roadside stand this year - that failed.

Unfortunately many of these pumpkins have started to rot already - so of what you see here - we have about half left.

We do have a plethora of the butternut squash on hand - as well as the tail end of several of our melons.

The true barometer of how bad this year was in the garden is the gourds...  and the fact that even the gourds didn't perform well and it's not uncommon to pick them now and find even THEY have rotten spots on their undersides.

Well - I guess the good news is the touch of frost the other morning has really started the end of the season.  All the drying beans are off and in the barn, most other plants are just about done producing - Kelli is still finding a few egg plants here and there...  and the peppers have a few stragglers...  But it's really clear - Fall is here.
