Of the Summer Fair's

l_2048_1536_A038A22B-9F82-422D-AC1C-E3D2AEDD6DE5.jpegWe decided it was time for a little day long vacation - a "daycation".  Between attending Empire Farm Days, the Wayne County Fair and the Erie County Fair this last Thursday and Friday - we are kinda feeling like this Hampshire sow...  full of Fair fare.

The really cool thing about going to these types of events is the opportunity to interact with all sorts of people - from the farm that grows and harvests all the feed for his massive herd of dairy cows, to the small scale breeder / show quality sheep farmer, to the family from suburbia that has no idea where their food comes from or what it means to farm - beyond, of course, the song "Ole' MacDonald".  It really is a cross section of America.

We certainly have a long way to go here - in terms of farming - but the learning process is exhilarating - and we are having a blast moving along the path.  No doubt - it would be a lot easier to come home at night and turn on the tv or hit a round of golf (have yet to get out this year and I saw a tree the other day that wasn't all green any more) but there is something very rewarding about providing food for yourself...  and even more rewarding in providing food for others.  So - we take the lessons learned - and those we continue to learn- and keep pressing on!
