Plastic rows a plenty

The long slow march towards getting everything into the ground for the growing season is finally getting to a point where I'm seeing more ground than planted green flats of veggies at the corner of the barn.  Still - there's more to do - which is why the updates have been rather slow over this week - it's been a dawn to dusk frenzy.

Up at 5:25 to feed the chickens, get them fresh water, add bedding as needed...  and it's been COLD (40 degrees many mornings) so the work around keeping the little guys warm has been extra.  Then - off to work - and as soon as we get home it's change and into the gardens.

This shot here shows the 2 90'+ runs of black plastic for the melon / gourd crop this year.  Going to see if this helps control the weed issue I had in the melons last year.  To the left of the plastic rows you can see 3 rows of corn in - hand planted - about 90'+ each as well - 2 sections of sweet and one of decorative.  The onions, leeks and garlic is visible way to the left.

So - what's ahead...  well - The last 6 of the 32 tomato plants and cages should get in the ground tonight...  Kelli is planting the 64 pepper plants today on her day off...  A few more seeds in the staggered plantings to go...  and then the gentle planting of all the pots of the melons and gourds down the plastic rows...  That's the end!

(well - until we start weeding, mulching, hilling...)
