Building a Barn Leanto - Part 4

Pole barn leantoThis last weekend, despite the bad weather, VERY cold temperatures (sounds like mid-May huh?) and high winds (ask me how many times the ladders blew over)  we made some decent progress on the leanto (it was so cold we actually kept a fire going in the barn all day long!).  With the help of my dad and uncle - the header on the posts was finished and we got the 10" long carriage bolts in.

We then were successful in getting all but 2 of the rafters up - and only stopped because we ran out of the special nails used for joist hangers and hurricane ties.  Although this picture only show some of the rafters up - you will have to trust me when I tell you they are all there :)

The next step in construction is to get the purloins on and then the metal roofing (in the foreground of this picture) installed.  I'm also expecting the rough-cut siding to be delivered some evening this week - which will mark the end of building materials coming in.

Obviously things are progressing - but I'm also getting ready for a detour - this upcoming weekend needs to see me spend some time focusing on the brooder being built as the chickens are due to arrive in less than 10 days!
