I bought some chicks...

Today we ordered the bunch of birds that will become the very ones that customers will be picking up - 75 straight runs to be exact ("Straight Run" is a term used in foul that means - mixed sex).  It's kinda funny - see in Cornish Rock Cross birds - the ones we raise for meat - the preferred bird is the male, as he grows bigger...  but for other chickens, obviously the preferred bird is the female as she lays the eggs.  Just like anything that's "preferred" in any other industry - the one with more demand costs more.  by purchasing straight run birds - you get a mix - and the price is moderated.

Anyhow - we used Welp Hatchery again this year and are looking forward to populating the as of yet, unbuilt, brooder on or around May 28th - we will provide lots more information about the progress of the birds.

If you are still interested in them - there are still a few available - you can fill out the form here.

I'm bummed that we live so far away. I bugged mom, but there's no way she's giving up freezer space to store some of your birds for us til we're up there next. You know how she is about raw chicken! ;-) And I don't expect we'll just happen to be up there THAT specific weekend (although it would be fun/interesting to see the whole process).

Well - you can live through the blog posts... and if you email me - we might be able to work something out for you!

This sucks - it seems Wordpress doesn't offer a "email follow-up comments to me" feature like blogger does...

I'll look into that - Wordpress has been a VERY good move for me so far...
