The short "war" is over

Things often happen with timings that aren't the best... for instance - the other morning as I was already a little late in departure for work I remembered the importance of checking the set traps frequently to be as humane as possible... and it was then - of course - that I found the trap door closed. It couldn't have been an evening when I got home from work - so I would have time to butcher the yummy well fed critter... it had to be first thing in the morning where time is scarce and precious.
As someone who really dislikes waste - of any kind - it was very depressing to have to make the choice...
Do you do the humane thing and kill the rabbit now (because you can't leave a rabbit in a trap all day with no food, water, and fully exposed) or do you wait until it's more convenient... well - nature doesn't - EVER - do convenient. And I wasn't about to let the rabbit go so we could try this again later on "my schedule". I caught him - luck was on my side - we were not going to try a second act!
So - in the pre-work morning darkness I dispatched the critter responsible for chewing up far more of our foundation plantings than any single furry monster should. I then placed his body in a location that - although I will not be able to enjoy him as a delicacy - one of the frequent avian raptors surely will. I'm telling myself I didn't "waste" the rabbit... I suppose the absence of his carcass suggests that's true - but boy would I have liked some hossenfeffer!
