Woodpecker Dinner

A picture of a female Downy Woodpecker on the suet feeder... It's actually one of my better bird pictures in a while - click on the image will get you a larger view of the photo.
The reddish thing on the left of the feeder all wrapped up in chicken wire is a pomegranate we rescued from Max and Carols - based on this awesome post over at Jeph's Spot... the only problem has been... our over-wintering flock of 6 Bluebirds could care less about the red fruit - or any other "Bluebird specific" food item we provide...
Which is good in many ways - we think it means they have all the food they need out here - naturally... and that's why we have so many of them around all the time.
But - enough about the Bluebirds - this picture is all about how cool the little Downy lady is...

That IS a great picture! I have downy woodpecker visits all the time...
I've actually noticed NO visitors to the birdfeeders this past week. I don't know if it's because I went a couple days with them empty before restocking last week, or if it was the big thaw we had, revealing tastier, more naturally-found stuff elsewhere. We'll see how things change with this new winter storm hitting...
They will be back.
