A nod to eggnog
Friday, December 18, 2009 at 6:32AM
My Christmas season starts with deer season (well gun season, as bow starts in October
)... which rapidly morphs over the course of the week into Thanksgiving... with family and friends. Then it's just a hop, skip and a jump to the main event.
Somewhere in early December there's the trip out into the snowy (or at least cold) fields of trees that have been meticulously groomed by others over the course of several years to find the perfect tree... sounds a little Clark W. Griswold doesn't it? Anyhow, the tree is harvested and brought back to adorn the house and festivities for a full month of the year.
Part of the tradition of cutting down the tree, for me, involves the first glass of eggnog of the season. It's something I always look forward to and over the years have fought to find a nog without all the gums, goos and gunk that so many of the common blends have. Partly because those things don't belong in eggnog - but also partly because they TASTE like they don't belong in eggnog.
This year Kelli brought me home some Organic Valley Egg Nog... and all I can say is WOW. Even if you are not a nog fan - this is a decadent holiday treat with only natural ingredients and a jaw dropping good taste. Compared to the orange-ish liquid in plastic containers that's called eggnog this time of year you may find the price in a slightly different arena... but for the piece of mind the coop produced drink offers and the amazingly homemade flavor... you will be glad you spent that little extra. Indulge this season - it's soooo worth it!
