Young Bluebird

The summer is winding down and the birds are starting to flock together - some for the long migration south in the coming weeks... others are flocking to be part of those brave feathered souls who will persist through the winter.
Then there is the namesake of our farm - they do a bit of both.
Well - we were happy to see the mom and dad that lost their first brood this spring and then fledged a second group arrive back in the yard this weekend with - to the best of our counting ability - all the babies that fledged! Quite the accomplishment.
Here's a shot with the "new to us" camera my mother gave us... of a yearling still getting into full color... perched on the roof, giving me a solid look over.
Next spring the plan is to have several more Eastern Bluebird houses built and in place before the nesting season starts... maybe we can have more than a single pair nest here!
The seasons are starting to change - no doubt - but it's comforting to know that THIS particular circle of life episode is still going strong.
