The 2008 Chicken Season is now Closed

With the passing of this weekend - our 2008 Chicken Season has now officially drawn to a close.

It's that fact that has kept me from posting for the last week - as I have been hurriedly preparing for the processing event - getting the "killing" cones built, a stand for the cones, determining logistics and layout, cleaning out the cooler and sterilizing it, sharpening knives, filling propane tanks for the scalder and other things... a lot of pre-work.

But - the short version of what I'll be sharing in the next several days in the form of posts and pictures of the event is as follows - 34 chickens were done - and the total amount of chicken after processing yielded 187 pounds - or 5.5 pounds per bird as an average weight...

So - now is the time we start thinking about next year and the maximum number of orders we will be taking for on farm pickups.

If you are interested - there is no time like the present to let us know - so we can get you on the mailing list for the 2009 Chicken Season. Based on the feedback so far and the number of birds we are expecting to do - slots will be filling up quickly!

So - keep you eyes peeled here and over the next few days I'll provide a re-cap of this last weekends processing event (and have no fear - there are NO graphic pictures).

We would like to be put on the list to order Bluebird Meadow Pharms chickens for next year. We would also like potatoes, beets, berries and whatever else you will plant!

No need for numbers yet - and we will send out formal stuff in the spring time...
