Sweet Dreams

Every year as the spring that becomes summer something wonderful happens - Kelli heads off the day after her summer classes wrap up and she starts picking strawberries... and she keeps on picking until we have eaten more than our fair share, have 10 months worth in the freezer (the other 2 months are fresh season!), and she makes her awesome seasonal strawberry pie.
Years ago she learned to make the same super flaky excellent tasting crust my mom makes - and whenever days are hot and the berries are ripe - she makes the chilled concoction that lasts about as long in the refrigerator as a fresh berries from a local field lasts (not those waxy things in the grocery store). That's code for about 2 days.
I'm sure if you want the recipe she will be happy to share it... all I can say is - it's worth it!
You will not the two forks ready to go - soon after this picture was taken - my slice was gone
(Of course - that's not to say we haven't been real piggies and had a couple rounds of fresh strawberry shortcake here over the last week as well!)

Mmmmm - that's some awesome looking pie Kelli! My favorite part? The red goo! Well, that, and a good flaky crust. Let's be honest - the strawberries are just an excuse to eat the other parts.

Hopefully you guys are starting to plan some great cooking when we're visiting my folks in a few weeks. I've instructed them we expect to come see Chicken Thistle Farm while we're there!
