Aprils' End
Wednesday, April 30, 2008 at 8:08PM
This month has just flown by - it seems almost like another lifetime ago when the snow was still flying and the birds were just returning from their winter haunts. And yet - some things stay the same... the weather for example has continue to not cooperate with me and there were actually flurries in the air today.
Although it looks like the second planting of peas has finally started to break the surface - I can't say as I'm overly optimistic about the outcome or excited by this fact given that tomorrow is the first of May. Such is the life on a farm.
Anyhow - looking at the upcoming block of several days of rain - I couldn't wait any longer to get out and keep progress moving forward.
Tonight I fired up our small front tine tiller (because its too wet still for the tractor and disk) and scratched around in the plowed garden some to get a row for my onion sets ready and also a small section where I could start getting some lettuce, spinach and carrots in... of course - all I managed tonight was the onions and lettuce... As the sun was going down I took a moment to say good bye to April - and count our blessings from this month... while quietly looking forward to May where the weather will slowly stabilize and culminate in the end of that month with the planting of all the plants that are still hiding out in the garage - afraid of the frost warning we have for tonight.
