Of Furrowed Land
Tuesday, April 22, 2008 at 12:15PM
A week of no rain, a lot of sun, warm temperatures and gentle breezes in the springtime lead up to one thing - plowing. And plow I did - it seemed a rather harmless pursuit feeling a little under the weather on Saturday - just sit on the tractor and drive. And drive I did...
There is something very relaxing and elemental about watching the sod turn over behind a tractor... seeing the furrows line up next to each other... knowing that this is where you will be planting seeds and plants that will grow and offer you sustenance of mind, body and soul.
This is a new area - straight behind the house. It's not going to get a lot of special anything this year other than preparation. Then this fall it will get a massive amount of garlic put in - and the balance re-plowed and green manure planted for the spring. Also - depending on the weather this spring and growth of rye - I might pasture the chickens here too.
There's more to plow here to the left (hopefully tonight) - and the berry patch needs plowing as well as the garden too.
