Soaking the seeds of spring

The first real full season of growing, raising and harvesting is starting at Chicken Thistle Farm - and we know one thing for sure - we don't know much about the conditions here. Last year we threw some tomatoes our friend Max had for us in 1 gallon pots into the ground around the first of July and were very pleasantly surprised by the amount of 'maters we harvested... this year - however - we are really trying it all. Of course we have the garlic from last fall in - and it's starting to look alive... (we didn't get the berry bushes ordered).
So here's the plan - step 1 - get the seed starting area up and running.
Small seed starter
Done - not much - and next year Kelli has already indicated she will be ready for flowers and more veggies - so this mini version is what we have for now.
Step 2 - plant about 100 4" pots of various tomatoes, peepers, cauliflower, leeks, melons and other fine edibles.
Done - the surface (which is warmed by 2 - 20W incandescent bulbs underneath - which begs the question - what will I do when the government takes them away as part of a super great energy policy in exchange for CFL's?) is full of green trays with damp, warm little seeds waiting to pop.
When the first one pokes up - I'll post pictures.
We are planning on augmenting the limited starting here with a fair number of greenhouse raised plants too - the plot for the first year is about 90' x 60' - so we have plenty of room to experiment.
