Why, what Weather?

I received a very interesting email from someone reading about our life here - asking about the weather station post. The jist of it is - "Are you doing anything with the data" - and the answer is a yes!
Aside from getting the software that will let it talk to the internet (some day soon) - there is a network of participating weather stations all over the US that feed specific point in time data back to the National Weather Service - and help generate better prediction models. So - that's part of being a good citizen.
Second thing is - this summer we may get a UV sensor for the setup... which plays into reason 3.

Reason 3: Since we moved out here we have noted that the air is cleaner (really - we have lichens growing on the roof here) - and we have also noted that the wind never stops blowing. One thing we are going to do is track the wind patterns and UV index over the course of a year - with the intention of being - if the data pans out - purchasing either a wind generator or a solar system... but the data will need to add up.

Hi Annnd,

This weather station is awesome. I can't believe it updates all the information constantly. If I had this at home, I'd never get anything else done. You should become a weatherman. The weather terrorists here in Buffalo have been warning people all day of impending doom tomorrow, so I better go grocery shopping and get more bread and milk!

Wind-powered generator? Cool! Weather-geeky and WAY cool! I say go for it.

Wait, you're going to buy a solar system? Are we talking bigger or smaller than the Milky Way?
