No less majestic

After the experience with the 13 point earlier this bow season - as you might imagine after getting the issue resolved (the working theory is there must have been some small twig that got caught between the string and wheel) getting back out into the field was high on my priority list.
I never expect to see that "once in a lifetime" deer again - and I have made my peace with that fact. But, as life goes on, so too does deer season.
I'm happy to share the fact I have had another successful bow season this year. A very large and freezer filling 8 point buck.
As I think I have mentioned before, and am acutely aware after butchering all those chickens this year, taking the life of an animal is an activity that should be construed as solemn and respectful. When this buck was shot with the arrow - he apparently felt no pain - only took a step forward and looked around... then he slowly continued walking for several steps... swayed sided to side and fell over. I heard his final breaths shortly after that.
I'm not as proud of the "trophy" or the meat in the freezer as I am of the clean kill and no suffering. So here's my thanks to the deer that frequent our land - thank you for contributing to our tasty dinners and participating in our conservation and sustainability efforts!
