The Sub-Soil Situation - Conclusion
Wednesday, September 19, 2007 at 7:04PM
Although this subject is slightly taboo - I need to post the final chapter of the plow saga... Long story (which it has been) made short - it works.
Now - you might ask here - what's with the huge chunk of concrete on there... well - before I figured out that the reason the modified plow didn't bite into the soil so well was because of the sod splitter and the depth wheels (both removed in this shot) - my solution was about 120#... which didn't work all that well - hence the removal of the sod splitter and depth wheel. The plow now bites into the ground great - likely I don't need the extra weight :)
I can certainly feel the lack of weight in my little tractor when plowing up hard ground - the plow really is driving where I'm going - not me!

Must be because the plow is driving that the rows are so crooked. I know you would drive straighter than that! Oh well, once the disk goes over it a few times the evidence will be gone.
As pointed out - I'm plowing incorrectly... the moldboard is toward the unplowed ground. The idea is that the plow will turn the dirt to the plowed side and you will be cutting into the unplowed ground with the next pass.
Thanks Harry_c - it's been a long time since I hitched on a plow - and was so excited - aside from setting up the angles best I could given the plow - I didn't even think about orientation!
