September - State of the Estate

Here's a general update of the State of the Estate for all our readers...

Kelli is busy painting the Blue Sky Room (the big blue room). She has a lot of work ahead of her - expecting a couple of coats to be needed to cover up the blue walls. Other than that, the rest of the interior remains intact and looking good. She's continuing to shop around for decorations and other items... and she has about 7 yards of fabric for the curtains in the Meadow View Room.

The barn is coming along at a pretty stead pace now. All the wire is in and the far 30' wall is almost completely insulated. Also on that wall the locations of the 2 windows that will be going in at some point are roughed in.

The trees and filed are starting to look like fall - I have a lot more bush hogging to do. Also need to get the plow fixed so I can turn over the garden area. Need to start thinking about getting in the asparagus and garlic soon.

This fall we are also planning on planting upwards of 50 wild blueberry bushes - to start producing marketable items... so - looks like that's going to be the first official planting!

FIFTY blueberry bushes!? And here I figured I was being crazy thinking I might try planting EIGHT!

Have you tested your soil yet - are you going to have to do any major ammending? And do you have a place picked out to order your blueberries from? I've been thinking of placing an order with Miller Nurseries, which are actually not TOO far from you guys/my folks - out in Canadegua (sp?). Might also try getting raspberries and strawberries from them now, and in the spring, a couple asian pear trees. (Actually, maybe their strawberries are spring shipments only?)

I'm also hoping to put in asparagus, but I thought that had to wait til spring? Sounds like you're going to try doing it this fall?
