The Farmers Market
Thursday, July 19, 2007 at 7:39AM Filed under the subtitle of "unexpected" - last night Kelli and I visited the Macedon Farmers Market and met Paul - the husband of Maiers Mud Acres... After buying some tomatoes from one person there, and some peppers and potatoes from Paul, we got to chewin the fat (they say that in the country). Anyhow - it's free for us to come to the Farmers Market and sell stuff... There were only 3 "pavilions" or tents there this week (first week of the year) - 2 produce and baked goods and one with some flowers and a basket.
The point here is - it's an after work sort of thing that Kelli and I are excited about looking into participating in next year. She keeps asking me what I plan on doing with all the stuff I'll be a growin... now maybe we can help enrich the community, sell some good veggies and have some fun meeting people... and if we are really lucky - we might even make a little cash to help offset the cost of the hobby.
Just a thought we had - it will be interesting to see what next year looks like! Worst case - we found a fun thing to do on a Wednesday night from July thru October!

If they have electrical outlets, maybe I could do some ironing!
This sounds like fun - you guys should totally do it!
Last year I considered doing the "grow an extra row" thing and donating homegrown goods to a needy cause. Only with the garden 30 minutes away and all the hustle and bustle of summer, I didn't crank out as much extra as I'd hoped, and was just giving the little bit of extra stuff to friends.
This year there certainly won't be a surplus. But maybe next year...!?
So will you guys just grow stuff to sell, or also try selling some of the good cooking I've heard about? Smoked meats perhaps?
I'm not sure what the NYS laws are about selling food stuffs or the prepared nature... but that's certainly something we have thought about. We are really thinking (and will be watching the contents of the market this year) that a bunch of the heirloom tomatoes might be a hit. Maybe we could work you into the equation as a fancy organic ice cream supplier!

LOL! I don't know if I'd count on my cranking out THAT much ice cream! 'Sides, the last two weeks has been all about buying and eating Ruggles brand ice creams, after someone at work had their really good Bearclaw flavor (really good chocolate ice cream with a barely noticeable caramel ribbon and chocolate covered cashews). Now I'm working my way through some Bumpy Road - soooo good! Marshmallow flavored ice cream with a chocolate ribbon and chocolate crunchies. MMMM!
Do you guys have any veggies growing at the new place - potted or in the ground? I know it's your first summer there... I'm just itching for all my heirloom tomatoes in pots to start ripening - can't wait for that first Black Krim or Green Zebra!
