This time of the year my days start at 5:30 and goes until sometime after 9 at night. I enjoy it – there’s a certain sense of accomplishment and invigoration that the spring brings. It is a pleasant, if busy and “good” stressful time of year. Which is why there are lilacs. No other flower blooms so fragrantly this time of year, forcing a busy (hobby) farmer who’s carrying a stack of pots for re-potting around the corner to stop dead in their tracks – to admire the smell. So take a moment stop to smell the flowers – if they are lilacs – it’s worth it!

I love the lilacs! My Miss Kim dwarf lilacs are about to explode with blooms anytime now. One of my “old fashioned” lilacs bloomed the last couple weeks, and I’m HOPING some of my newer plants will bloom sometime soon – otherwise I’ll have to wait another year.
I DID know that! Just learned it last year actually (maybe you mentioned it? or I heard it on a podcast)…so as sort of an inside joke with myself (since no one else would understand/appreciate it), when I was decided what to plant where in the landscaping beds outside the master bedroom/bathroom walls, I made sure to plant one of the lilacs directly under the little half window above the bathtub, which is just around the corner from the toilet!
Lilacs signal spring and are probably one of my most favorite smelling flowers – all around good things!
Did you know that old farmhouses used to plant them between the house and the outhouse (at the bedroom windows) to cover the smells up in the springtime?
